Talk about Jackie Robison having brass balls to make it, imagine what that guy must have gone through.
JerryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7319174573451739162.post-42757420321756055582009-04-24T21:35:00.000-07:002009-04-24T21:35:00.000-07:00I was reading a study of how Americans view Japane...I was reading a study of how Americans view Japanese culture and an interesting tidbit came up. Some participants in the study felt that the influx of Japanese into Major League Baseball was ruining the game and that baseball was no longer as American as apple pie.

Actually, the influx of Asian, black and Latin players is as American as you can fucking get. This is a country that supposedly celebrates the ideals of immigration. Go read the plaque on the Statue of Liberty. We are a diverse nation full of many different ethnicities and cultures, so why shouldn't baseball reflect that?

If a Japanese or a Latin player is good enough to play the game, then they should. There should not be quotas. The only thing that matters is how fast you can throw the ball, or hit the ball, or run or whatever.

It speaks volumes to America's fear of the rest of the world. We love free markets and competition, but only for Americans. God forbid someone bring their skills to this country and see what they can do.

Should baseball be black and white? Hell no. It should be black, white, yellow, red, and brown. Come one, come all.Spokkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03244298044953214810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7319174573451739162.post-78400150060992965372009-04-22T12:28:00.000-07:002009-04-22T12:28:00.000-07:00I've often wondered about how the number of blacks...I've often wondered about how the number of blacks that play in the Majors is calculated. It seems ridiculous that the number of any group would be calculated any longer, considering the diversity of the sport; more Asian players, Cubans that defect, blacks, white, etc.

If anything, the focus should be on how can American players can better compete with the players that are coming to the Major Leagues from around the world. In my mind, it seems that instead of worrying about an ethnic group, the goal should be to elevate the entire population.

Which would be pretty apt for the nation as a whole.Dave Wakeman's Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03516183709748031660noreply@blogger.com
